FEMA has released new flood maps, which could significantly impact Onslow County residents. Over 3,500 buildings have been added under an A-zone flood area. However, North Topsail buildings have lost their VE restriction, which should save homeowners in that area thousands of dollars. Another interesting change to the new maps is while the boundaries of many floodplain areas have remained the same, revisions were made to the base flood elevations. Yearly VE zone premiums can run up to $4,000. Recently, a public information session took place at Snead’s Ferry Community Center to inform residents about the changes.
