Despite Falsified Supplier Data, Japanese Automakers Claim Cars Are Safe

Kobe Steel, a Japanese metal supplier admits that it falsified product quality data for more than 10 years. Kobe supplies sheet metal and aluminum for many American, Japanese, German, and French automakers. In light of this news, the European Aviation Safety Agency has issued a warning against using Kobe components. Honda, Toyota, Mazda and Nissan all use Kobe metals in their hoods and other automotive components. According to tests, all of the Kobe parts are safe. While Kobe CEO Hiroya Kawasake plans to resign, the company is bracing itself for multiple lawsuits.
