While hundreds of thousands of customers have paid $1000 each to reserve Tesla 3’s, production problems are holding up delivery of the cars. Consumers may have to wait until 2020 or later before they actually see the cars. Meanwhile, GM says it won’t be taking advantage of the opportunity to lure buyers to its own Chevy Bolt, which is readily available.
- -Tesla is struggling to meet demands of the high volume of reservations made for it’s new Model 4 electric vehicle. Only about 1,500 of the 455,000 reserved have been delivered.
- -In the past, Nissan used this as a tactic to get people to buy the all-electric Nissan Leaf sedan, which is a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3, but Tesla buyers are quite patient and willing to wait it out.
- -General Motors does not plan to launch an ad campaign which takes advantage of Tesla’s delays to provide incentive to prospective e-Car buyers to switch over the the Chevy Bolt.
