Their are seven maps in particular that show just how our understanding of the world has changed dramatically. These seven particular maps include Ptolemy’s Geographia, Mercator world map, the Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula, Samuel Dunn’s 1794, 1854 from Scottish Protestants, 1942 world map, and the last map in particular Google maps.
- Google Maps is one of the most downloaded apps, and for good reason: It tells us where we’re going.
- centuries before we had satellite imaging, high altitude photography, or smartphones, people were jumping into ships and measuring distances
- Ptolemy’s world map, originally described in the year 150, was one of the first to show longitude and latitude
“North America’s Pacific Northwest remains wholly undiscovered on this map, as does the part of Russia that extends out towards North America.”
